I. Know the Entrance Requirements

All applicants must meet minimum entrance requirements as set by the TAMU Office of Admissions and Records and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Satisfying the minimum criteria qualifies an applicant for consideration but does not guarantee admission to the program. MAgr faculty will review each application taking into consideration:

A. Undergraduate Academic Records

All applicants must hold a four-year baccalaureate degree (or higher) from a college or university of recognized standing (i.e., degrees from institutions outside the US are evaluated for equivalency to US degrees). You will need to request transcripts from the institutions you have attended when you submit your application to Texas A&M. These institutions will send your transcripts directly to the TAMU Office of the Registrar. Grades from the last sixty hours of your undergraduate degree will be used to determine your grade point average (GPA).

B. Three Recommendations

Your professional and/or academic experience and promise of ability to pursue advanced study satisfactorily will also be considered. Three letters of recommendation from individuals that are familiar with your academic acheivement and potential; usually former professors or current supervisors, will support your application. The individuals completing the recommendation forms will return them directly to the graduate advisor in the academic department you have chosen at TAMU. These forms are contained within the application.

C. GRE Test Scores

A Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) score is required for full graduate admission to Texas A&M University. Tests are given year-round at computer-based test centers worldwide. Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Your score will be reported four to six weeks after you take the test. Score reports are mailed to you and up to four institutions you designated at the time of registration or on the admission ticket correction stub. Request that your scores be sent directly from the testing center to Texas A&M University (Code 6003). Scores must be from a test date no more than five years prior to the date your TAMU application reaches the Office of Admissions and Records.

D. TOEFL Scores (if required)

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score from within the last two years is required from applicants whose native language is not English, with the exception of those applicants completing all four years of a baccalaureate degree in the United States or achieving a 400 Verbal GRE or 22 Verbal GMAT. A TOEFL score of 550 (213 computer based) or higher is usually required for admission.

E. Applicant Statement

The applicant statment, which is part of the application, is composed of a short essay describing your special field of interest and the objectives of your educational program and professional career.
